i'm the last earthly branch!
[Given the sheer size of the Hunter Association's HQ premises, Leorio shouldn't have been surprised when they invited him to stay within the building for the remainder of his new "course". Yet he was because yeah, the building was huge- but he had booked a hotel and everything!
'Don't worry about that', they said. 'Just concentrate on preparing for the exams and our voyage. You're a Zodiac now, you'll have your own room. Make yourself comfortable while you have the chance.'
How the heck was that suppose to make him feel comfortable?!]
It's not. [He mutters, apparently keen on answering his own questions.] None of this is suppose to make me comfortable. That's why I joined to begin with...! [and talking to himself, yeah.
Which is why instead of sleeping, Leorio is literally aimlessly wandering around HQ in the early morning hours, peering into empty offices and pausing in front of 'personnel only' labeled doors. Although now he's cornered a food cart and is trying to select between a ham sandwich and a turkey sub. He doesn't seem too happy about how fast everything is proceeding, but at least with the commotion died down he can stop and think. and yeah, eat a sandwich.]

The preparations will take awhile, but... it's necessary. [ a few months of this doesn't seem too discomforting to kurapika, honestly. ] We'll be busy.
[ he looks at leorio here, his weak smile and his following question, and doesn't respond. instead he lifts his head and seems to look at the direction of the exit. ] There's a cafe across the street that only serves high Association staff, but you'll need your license.

kurapika says it's necessary. it makes leorio less at ease, yet confident that things will go smoothly for the next few months. hopefully.
he shakes out of his thoughts and stuffs his hands in his pockets.] Wouldn't hurt to see if they'll help me out. But now I'm not sure I want to go through the trouble!
Hn. You'll come, right? [he takes one step ahead, half-turned towards kurapika.]

there's a look of 'if i have to' that flashes across kurapika's face but really take a hint, leorio. he agrees wordlessly. ] They serve late. [ with a small nod.
kurapika doesn't have much to say about their reunion- he can't say he's surprised, or that it feels like it's been awhile, leorio has been a persistent presence in his life, albeit one-sidedly. he’s silent as they exit the hall, mind elsewhere though ever aware of leorio beside him. they’ve a few halls to pass before they exit the way they need to for the cafe, about five minutes away. ]

that makes him feel better about it, but his curiosity isn't sated so easily. even during those impromptu meetings where his focus should have been on the matter at hand (it was, mostly), he was stealing glances at the other male. kurapika's hair was longer.
but whatever! his feet click when they walk down the hall, and leorio just so happens to look up in that exact moment to see a portrait of the late chairman netero on their right.
he had been walking languidly already, but he slows his steps even further so he can observe the portrait a bit more. unlike gon and killua, leorio had no fond memories to speak of regarding the chairman. as far as he was concerned, he was a funny old guy with a nasty sense of humor and a love of all things interesting. leorio wasn't sad to hear of his passing, but it somehow felt like a small part of his past- back when they were all still strangers- had been erased off a board. it was a biazarre feeling.]
Think that old man got what he wanted? [he looks at kurapika with a smile tugging at the edge of his lips.]
